Job description

Stanford Digital Economy Lab (DEL) has a research partnership with ADP, the leading provider in business services for payroll processing and human resources management. DEL researchers are using ADP microdata (on workers, jobs, and pay) to carry out a variety of research projects relating to workforce, management, and technology.

We seek a predoc to support development of data infrastructure (e.g., create tools to extract, link, and clean data), develop and maintain data tables on measures of the workforce (e.g., wages by industry and occupation), and contribute to research projects (e.g., measuring the skill content of jobs and the wage returns to skills). The computing environment is a cloud-based Databricks platform, with existing code predominantly in Python language.

We expect a predoc to have strong background and interest in economics (e.g., applied microeconomics, labor economics), and strong computational skills (e.g., data processing in Python, econometrics in Stata, experience in machine learning and natural language processing is a plus). Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.

Fellows are appointed as non-matriculated graduate students and have the opportunity to fully engage in the intellectual life at Stanford University. They dedicate a significant portion of their time to an empirical research project and can take courses at Stanford University for credit (up to one 3-unit course per quarter). The fellowship offers tuition, health insurance, and a living stipend.

Application deadline
Review of applications will begin on 4/18/25, and the position will remain open until filled.
