The Digitalist Papers, Vol. 2: The Economics of Transformative AI
December 11, 2025
Simonyi Conference Center | 4th floor
389 Jane Stanford Way | Room W450 | Stanford, CA 94305
By invitation only

Inspired by The Federalist Papers, this second volume of The Digitalist Papers turns to the economics of transformative AI—technology that could usher in economic change comparable to the Industrial Revolution but with far greater speed and scope. The essays translate cutting-edge research into accessible insights for policymakers, industry leaders, and the public, charting how to steer AI’s economic transformation with foresight and design.

This event, held at Stanford University, will feature presentations and discussions with leading economists, technologists, investors, and policymakers who are shaping the future of work and growth.

The Digitalist Papers is a project of the Stanford Digital Economy Lab. Building on the first volume’s focus on AI and democracy, Volume 2 offers serious yet accessible roadmaps, frameworks, and open questions for navigating the economic challenges and opportunities of the AI age.

The volume is led by faculty editors Ajay Agrawal, Erik Brynjolfsson, Anton Korinek, and Alex Pentland, with Daniel Susskind serving as Senior Editor. Its publication has been made possible through the generous support of the Project Liberty Institute and its founder, Frank McCourt.

This event is open by invitation only. To request an invitation, please contact digitalistpapers@stanford.edu.

About Volume 1

Digitalist Papers book cover

In the first volume of The Digitalist Papers series, contributors were invited to apply their disciplinary tools and domain expertise to address two key questions:

  1. How has AI changed the world, and what are the implications for democratic institutions, governance, and leadership?
  2. What is your vision for the future, and how do you plan to achieve it?

All twelve essays of the The Digitalist Papers Volume 1 are available here.
