Progress in AI and related forms of automation technologies threatens to reverse the gains that developing countries and emerging markets have made during the past half-century. While these technologies have the tendency to be both labor-saving and resource-saving, they can also aggravate poverty and inequality.

In this lunchtime seminar, Anton Korinek (University of Virginia) and Joseph Stiglitz (Columbia University) joined Erik Brynjolfsson to discuss the economic forces behind these developments, as well as the economic policies and reforms that would mitigate the adverse effects on developing and emerging economies.
