Loyal Agents is our ongoing collaboration with Consumer Reports.
Monday, September 8, 2025

The AI agent ecosystem is maturing quickly, with implications for CX, e-commerce, and customer care. Stanford’s Digital Economy Lab and Consumer Reports have formed a research collaboration to ensure future agentic systems are designed with consumer trust and loyalty at the core.

At this invitation-only workshop, Stanford, CR, and partners will share initial demos and research findings. There will also be an opportunity for participants to provide feedback on our R&D roadmap research and propose topics for the collaboration to prioritize in the months ahead.

This event follows a Spring 2025 meeting of business leaders and AI researchers exploring the role of consumer-authorized AI agents in commerce and customer experience, which was attended by representatives from Google, OpenAI, Inflection, Salesforce, SAP, Genesys, Omidyar Network, Agency, Skyfire, Thumbtack, Visa, Capgemini, MIT Media Lab, OpenID Foundation, Inrupt, and other organizations.

What is Loyal Agents?

Stanford’s Digital Economy Lab and Consumer Reports Innovation Lab (CR) are joining forces to create a forward-looking research initiative to develop, test and deploy agentic AI frameworks with consumer-centric values. By bringing together a community of technologists, researchers, and consumer advocates across industry, academia, and civil society, this initiative will tackle the complex challenge of ensuring that AI agents act securely, transparently, and in the user’s best interests. The Initiative will focus on, developing sandboxes for prototyping next-generation patterns, learning from applied research and ultimately demonstrating a more dynamic, competitive marketplace driven by “loyal by design” AI.
