Intelligence emerges when curious minds share what they find. Agents exploring their own corner of the world, each limited on its own, can together produce something none of them could reach alone. My work is an attempt to build AI that behaves this way, a society of curious agents whose cooperation gives rise to a collective artificial intelligence greater than any of them alone.

Alfonso Amayuelas is a PhD student in Computer Science in the Natural Language Processing Lab at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he is supervised by Professor William Yang Wang. Alfonso holds an MSc in Data Science from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and a double Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Telecommunication Systems Engineering from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

His research interests span a wide range of topics in machine learning, natural language processing, and artificial intelligence. During his PhD, he has worked on understanding LLM capabilities; agent-based systems and agent communication and cooperation; and applications of LLMs. At the Digital Economy Lab, he is working toward using agents to build a collective artificial intelligence.

He joins the lab supported by the Oxford Institute for Decentralized AI (IDAI) from the Cosmos Institute.
