My work has two main goals: (1) identify how to harness digital technologies for social good, with applications to pressing issues like political polarization, misinformation, and the lack of substantive representation; (2) rethink how AI can be transformative for low-resource communities, where the current digital transformation presents a unique opportunity to generate shared prosperity.
José Ramón is a Postdoctoral Fellow in a dual appointment between the Digital Economy Lab and the Golub Capital Social Impact Lab (Stanford Graduate School of Business).
He studies how digital technologies enhance governance —and therefore prosperity— in developing contexts. His current projects explore ways to reduce misinformation sharing, as well as to harness generative AI to enhance deliberation on social issues, curtail political polarization, and augment human survey responses. He collaborates with partners in policy, academia, and international organizations in the US, Latin America, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
José Ramón holds a Ph.D. in Political Economy and Government (PEG) from Harvard University. Originally from Durango, Mexico, José Ramón graduated with honors from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) with a B.A. in Economics and a B.A. in Political Science.
